![]() Financial assistanceAs a student from abroad wishing to study at a cegep in the Québec network, you may benefit from financial assistance in the form of an exemption from tuition fees or a scholarship. In any case, to study in Québec you must first obtain a Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) for studies and a study permit.
Tuition fees exemptionsEvery year the Québec college network is able to receive a given number of students who are exempted from paying the tuition fees normally required of students from abroad. For the 2010-2011 academic year, 141 students will be entitled to an exemption.
You may be eligible for an exemption if you come from a country where the fees are applicable and if you are registered full time in a technical training program leading to a DCS. However, even if you are exempted, you will have to pay the fees applicable to Québec students, in addition to a group health and hospitalization insurance premium for students from abroad attending a cegep or private college.
Tuition fees for students from abroad, 2010-2011 academic year
To request an exemption, please contact the person in charge at the cegep where you will be registered or admitted. Subsequently, that person and his/her counterparts in other cegeps will choose applicants from the applications they have received and will send them to Cégep international, which will grant the exemptions according to the program criteria. Since each cegep receives two exemptions at the present time, you should complete your application quickly to ask for an exemption.
Merit scholarshipsTo apply for a scholarship, you must meet the following conditions:
You may receive a scholarship in the amount of $15,000 a year for a maximum of three years, depending on the excellence of your academic record for each year of study in your program.
In addition to the scholarship, the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec (MELS) offers all scholarship holders an exemption from supplementary tuition fees applicable to students from abroad. Scholarship holders can also obtain health care coverage from the Régie d’assurance maladie du Québec, which means they need not take out group health and hospitalization insurance for students from abroad attending a cegep.
Applications by students registered in a program with promising job prospects in Québec will be favoured. Half of the bursaries are reserved for educational institutions located in the following administrative areas:
To submit your application for a scholarship, we urge you to quickly contact the person in charge at the cegep where you are registered or have been admitted. Subsequently, the persons in charge at the cegeps will choose applicants from the applications they have received and will recommend them to Cégep international (before March 8), which will award the bursaries.
